Relevance
The practice of dowsing is not as popular today as it was centuries ago and that is because of the development in technologies that support the investigation of water and minerals underground. Dowsing is considered a sacred concept and it stands to showcase its place in contemporary spirituality. Although it is not seen as a ritual, the practice has worked to act like a link between the natural and supernatural worlds.
Dowsing was central to finding water underground but it also played a major role in the process of mining, which has connections to the contemporary mining science (Dym, 2008). The practice gained popularity as a result of cultural and sociological factors that made it famous and reliable. The lack of water and lack of technology to find underground water sources led to the development of dowsing. Although it is believed to be based off of superstition, water dowsing brought people with similar beliefs together.
